So, last night was Heather's 3rd gymkhana.
Josh & Heather got there a little early with the trailer -
so we could have a good spot.
The rest of the kids and I stopped for food and
then headed over to the arena.
Ya'll it was 5:30 when the kids and I got there.
We then found out that it was pushed to a 7:00 start -
Josh had been there since 5:00.
Since this was the temp outside,
the horses were pretty warm.
We brought Cheyenne for Heather,
Tonka for Wonder Girl
and Topaz for a back up.
Turns out - it was a buy 2 get one free opportunity.
SO, at the last second we signed Hailey up to ride Topaz.
She was WAY excited.
Heather warming up Cheyenne.
Hailey warming up Topaz.
This great group showed up.
Wade, Mercy and Mikey
from
Justice
Jasmine
yep - they played in the dirt the WHOLE time
well, not the whole time
they walked around on Topaz while Hailey would get a drink or potty.
waiting her turn
Heather did all 3 events:
barrels, pole bending, flag event.
She took a 4th, 5th, and 6th place spot
out of the 11 kids in her age group (7-10).
She placed 5th overall - but I didn't get a picture of the ribbon.
(imagine a green 5th place ribbon picture here)
Hailey didn't place at all - she is in the same age group as Heather -
and we are really still just working on turns and walking.
Hailey and I discussed all the patterns and how to tackle each event.
She had never ridden any of the patterns before and
only got a no-time on one event - flags.
Topaz isn't a horse that was made for anything that moves.
She spooks at everything - so I walked the flag event behind her.
At the first barrel with the flag on it - Topaz freaked out.
I had a hold of the reins, and we had a mini lesson for Topaz.
I finally handed the flag to Hailey and we finished the event.
Hailey did GREAT at keeping her cool,
while Topaz was being a dork.
They did give Hailey a participation ribbon.
She was way excited.
(imagine a purple participation ribbon here)
Each girl also got a prize.
Hailey picked a lead rope.
I didn't get more pictures because I was holding Topaz all night
and working with Hailey on the patterns.
Josh was with the rest of the girls.
We reversed roles yesterday.
All-in-all
at the end of the day
We had a GREAT time.
Even though at 10:00pm
as we were leaving the arena
it was

Way To Go Girls!!!
Don't know how you guys do it in that heat. Seriously. Does it really make that much difference not having any serious amount of humidity??
Wish we had playdays like that near here!! That just looks like SO much fun! (Course, it'd be more fun to have the likes of you guys and Mikey's crew to show up!)
Dang, I didn't realize it was that hot! I knew it was hot, but wow..
Those girls did fantastic!!! They really are getting into it and it's so good to see that :) Thanks for the pics too!
holy- thats hot! i top out for riding about 90- guess id never make it out there!
Congrats! Sounds like so much fun!
I really miss showing. We have our family rodeo coming up in August. But it is only family, but still a lot of fun! I can't wait!
I thought horses would just fall over running around in that heat. I sure do (it's 108 here).
Sound like it was great fun, though!
What fun! It was 111 here yesterday near Palm Springs. More heat forecast for today. I'm heading up to the mountains!
Holy cow! That's stinkin' hot!!!! Congrats to your girls. What great lessons they are learning!
Jasmine is such a mini you! Too cute!! :-)
Oh my goodness!! That is HOT!! I can't complain about 99 degrees down here. It's that for us at noon and then cools off to 80 at night!
Congrats to your girls!! They all look so excited to be up on those horses!! I love to watch kids ride their horses. Great pictures!!!
Your heat has headed into our part of Colorado. 99* today and heading upwards.
